About the project:

Real Talk: Connecting 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities (CQC) will focus on connecting 2SLGBTQIA+ folks with cognitive disabilities with the broader queer community of Metro Vancouver. The project will include a Project Coordinator and Peer Coordinator, who will work together to support the group activities and co-design its services to partners. The project will also involve a Planning Group of 3 – 5 people, who will meet to decide the events throughout the year, as well as un unlimited broader group of folks who will attend the events.

While the group will decide what they will specifically look like, group activities will likely involve attending 2SLGBTQIA+ events, festivals, parties, support groups, social meet-ups, and so forth.

In partnership with QMUNITY, the project will also aim to increase queer advocacy and support in Community Living Organizations, as well as increase disability confidence in 2SLGBQTQIA+ organizations by creating surveys and running workshops.

Peer Coordinator duties:

  • Help schedule, prepare for, and attend (4) Planning Group meetings (one every 3 months). The Planning Group will decide the social events for the year.
  • Go with participants to planned events, talk to community members, help participants feel welcome in the community 
  • Help write Accessibility survey for QMUNITY, to help us target where they can be more disability confident
  • Help write 2SLGBTQIA+ surveys for Community Living Organizations, to help us target where they can be more queer-affirming
  • Co-create & co-deliver Accessibility Advocacy workshops for QMUNITY
  • Co-create & co-deliver Queer Advocacy workshop for Community Living conferences
  • Help spread the word about this group: 
    • Informally, at events we attend as a group in the community
    • On social media with our program accounts
    • Running a booth at community living sector events (BBQs, picnics, conferences)
    • Running a booth at 2SLGBTQIA+ events

 

Relevant Hours / Schedule Info:

  • The role requires an average of (4) hours per week. 
  • Some weeks will involve more hours and other weeks will involve fewer.
  • We can work with people’s existing schedules, but hours will vary depending on the programming. There will likely be some daytime hours, some evening hours, and some weekend hours.

 

Work Environment:

  • You’ll be working directly with our CQC Project Coordinator, as well as the Real Talk Project Manager.
  • Work model can be adapted to the candidate’s needs: remote, in person, hybrid, etc.
  • If access to internet is a barrier, we can work with you to get you internet access
  • If getting to/from New Westminster office for work hours is a barrier, we can work with you to support you in transportation. 

 

Job / Payment Info: 

  • The job is a contract position, ending December 31 2023. We can provide you with support invoicing monthly if needed.
  • $26.76 / hr
  • Kinsight is the organization holding the contract.

 

Recruitment Information:

  • Enjoy connecting & introducing people
  • Good communications (via text or email etc.)
  • Independent in transportation around Greater Vancouver
